The wood shelled rope block is a functional fitting of the fine sailing yacht or of the old time sailing tall ships of old. The blocks can be solid teak or lignum vita with bronze sheaves and hanks. The tall ships would use white oak for their blocks with cast iron sheaves and natural rope strops for hanks.
